Randomly Growing Braid on Three Strands and the Manta Ray, with Appendix
نویسنده
چکیده
Consider the braid group B3 = 〈a, b | aba = bab 〉 and the nearest neighbor random walk defined by a probability ν with support {a, a, b, b−1}. The rate of escape of the walk is explicitly expressed in function of the unique solution of a set of eight polynomial equations of degree three over eight indeterminates. We also explicitly describe the harmonic measure of the induced random walk on B3 quotiented by its center. The method and results apply, mutatis mutandis, to nearest neighbor random walks on dihedral Artin groups.

Randomly Growing Braid on Three Strands and the Manta Ray by Jean Mairesse
In memory of Daniel Mollier, our former mathematics teacher at the Lycée Louis le Grand, Paris. Consider the braid group B3 = 〈a, b|aba = bab〉 and the nearest neighbor random walk defined by a probability ν with support {a, a−1, b, b−1}. The rate of escape of the walk is explicitly expressed in function of the unique solution of a set of eight polynomial equations of degree three over eight ind...

متن کاملDNA barcoding of Mobulid Ray Gill Rakers for Implementing CITES on Elasmobranch in China
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has been counted on for conserving threatened marine fish since it regulates the commercial international trade of these species. Implementation of the international treaty for Mantas included on CITES Appendix II is challenging due to insufficient information on species identification and markets manage...
متن کاملThree Strands in a Braid: Identity Interaction in Social Software
This paper brings together three strands of theory about how people interact in order to achieve common goals: aspects of identity (categorical, relational and positional); types of identity interaction (selection, mobilization and commitment); and conditions of tie formation and dissolution (boundary areas on the Cynefin sensemaking framework). The paper explains how the three strands come tog...
متن کاملComposition problems for braids: Membership, Identity and Freeness
In this paper we investigate the decidability and complexity of problems related to braid composition. While all known problems for a class of braids with three strands, B3, have polynomial time solutions we prove that a very natural question for braid composition, the membership problem, is NP-complete for braids with only three strands. The membership problem is decidable in NP for B3, but it...
